Civitas Sancti
Sunday 14th July 2013, 3pm
St. Leonard's Church, Hythe
As part of the St. Leonard's Festival, Ishirini sings a selection of the music prepared for their forthcoming trip to Israel and the West Bank, as part of the Palestinian Choral Festival organised by the Choir of London. The music for this concert reflects the key theme of the festival: artistic dialogue and collaboration in Palestine.
In our selection of Renaissance and contemporary repertoire including Byrd's Civitas Sancti Tui, Pärt's Magnificat and Allegri's Miserere we explore how the city of Jerusalem has been represented, lamented and extolled in music. We also sing pieces from the Arabic world which we were introduced to at Aswatuna in Jordan.
