From Sadness to Joy
Music for voices and viols
18th August 2019, 3pm
Lutheran Church, Leeuwarden, Netherlands
Ishirini joins Fries Lachrimae Consort for a concert of music for voices and viols by Dowland, Tallis, Byrd, Gibbons and others.
Chamber choir Ishirini and the viols of Fries Lachrimae Consort explore some of the riches of 16th and 17th century English music. With works by some of the major names of the time, our theme takes us from the melancholy of Dowland’s much copied Flow my tears to the unbridled joy of William Childs’ Sing we merrily. We also perform Gibbons’ witty musical romp The Cries of London. Join us to hear this wonderfully intimate repertoire come alive.
Fries Lachrimae Consort, our partners for this concert, are originally a small group of amateur consort players from Friesland (a small rural province, famous for its pedigree cattle). They have now grown into a pool of around 10 viol players and over 20 singers, who aim to regularly perform so-called consort anthems. See more details about the consort and their consort anthem project on their website frieslachrimaeconsort.nl
Tickets available on the door, €10.
