Musical collaboration realised

Hamba Lulu was a huge success. Thanks to a packed audience for their reception of Ishirini's reunion concert with Upendo.
The concert started with a Tudor Our Father from Ishirini followed seamlessly by a Swahili Our Father from Upendo. We'd worked hard to develop a truly collaborative programme, and it seems to have paid off, as the audience looked absolutely hooked.
A fabulous new commission arranged by Ben Finn, a member of Ishirini interweaves one of Upendo's songs with Gibbons' Drop Drop Slow Tears to create a gorgeous fusion of styles.
Both the audience and the choir are deeply moved – and delighted that there's chance to repeat the piece as an encore.
The collaboration has exceeded all expectations. We are thrilled that Upendo leave one of their very beautiful drums to Ishirini as a thanks for arranging the tour. A wonderful and thoughtful gift.
