India tour repertoire: An Offering of Songs

Our programme of music is inspired by the Bengali poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore, as our tour coincides with his 150th anniversary. He was born in Kolkata and spent a good deal of time in Kalimpong.

Tagore’s web of influences is such that we will be singing some of the most sublime choral music of the European tradition, with pieces by Finzi, Schumann, Macmillan and Skempton. We have also specially commissioned a piece for the tour which interweaves a song by Tagore with English and biblical poetry.

Andrew O'Sullivan and Ann Morgan, two members of the choir, wrote the programme notes explaining the repertoire that we chose to sing in our tour to India and its connection to Rabindranath Tagore. Click the image to download a pdf.
