Singers from Dozan wa Awtar, the Jordanian Sacred Heart of Jesus Choir, the Syrian Chamber Choir of the High Institute of Music, the Emirati Nassim Al Saba choir and the British Ishrini Choir are attending the workshops, which began on Wednesday, to rehearse for a joint performance. Zada said the workshops will be held in Madaba, Wadi Rum, Petra and Amman, and will conclude with a final performance at Ras Al Ain Gallery on Saturday at 7:00pm.
Abu Khader noted that the festival organisers faced many hurdles. “The idea was to hold this festival in Petra, like we did last time in 2008, but the financier backed down at the last minute,” she said, adding that choirs from more countries, including Sweden, Egypt and Lebanon were planning to join the festival. “Our first reaction was to give up on the idea, but then our friends from the UK told us they had already bought their tickets to Jordan, so we decided to do what we can to make this project a reality,” Abu Khader recounted.
