A day with Queens'

Pupils from Mayfield Primary School, St Alban's Primary School and Melbourn Village College assembled in the Fitzpatrick Hall and the day began with some typically energising performances from Upendo to get everyone in the mood.

Groups then spread out amongst the courtyards (to the surprise of delegates attending a syntax conference!) to compose and rehearse their Upendo-style creations. The emphasis in the afternoon was on combining all the group performances into one communal effort while preserving the individual character of each song – a difficult task!

The result was a spirited and energetic piece which formed the centrepiece of the evening performance. It was great to see a hall packed with parents and friends for the concert, and the atmosphere was electric as Upendo got into their stride. The group performance was met with great cheers and it was clear from their faces that the children appreciated they had been part of something very special.

A drinks reception for Upendo followed in the Tudor Long Gallery at Queens' – another opportunity for the group to experience some British history first hand.
